The dynamic duo of Aravind Mani and Vipin George, co-founders of River, have propelled their Bengaluru-based electric vehicle (EV) startup to new heights with a remarkable Series B funding round, securing a monumental $40 million. This latest infusion of capital elevates River’s total funding to an impressive $68 million, underscoring the burgeoning confidence in the company’s vision and potential.
Leading the charge in this funding round is Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd., a renowned name in the automotive industry, showcasing a resounding endorsement of River’s mission. Existing investors, including Al-Futtaim Automotive, Lowercarbon Capital, Toyota Ventures, and Maniv Mobility, have reaffirmed their commitment to River’s trajectory by participating in this round.

With this fresh capital injection, River is poised to fortify its distribution and service network across India, laying the groundwork for a robust market presence. Furthermore, the startup is slated to channel resources into research and development (R&D), propelling innovation and expanding its future product portfolio. Aravind Mani, the visionary Co-founder and CEO of River, articulated the significance of this investment, affirming, “The investment is a significant boost for our plan to build a Billion-dollar global utility-lifestyle brand by 2030. We have built a great base in R&D and manufacturing over the last two years, and now, it’s time to grow.”

River is set to capitalize on Yamaha’s unparalleled proficiency in design and technology in a strategic move aimed at leveraging synergies and expertise. Vipin George, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer (CPO) of River, expressed his excitement about this partnership, stating, “I learned to ride on a Yamaha motorcycle and have been amazed by the highest performance levels they stand for. River made waves in October 2023 with the launch of its inaugural product, the Indie, hailed as the “SUV of scooters.” This groundbreaking innovation, fully conceptualized and developed at River’s state-of-the-art R&D facility in Bengaluru, is manufactured precisely at its factory in Hoskote, underscoring the company’s commitment to quality and craftsmanship.
Building on this momentum, River inaugurated its flagship store in Bangalore in January 2024, marking the onset of an ambitious expansion strategy. The startup is primed to extend its footprint to 100 cities within the next two years, setting the stage for accelerated growth and market penetration.
